Meet Meredith!

Meredith Tobitsch has become a familiar face in New Canaan—an engaged volunteer, a steady community leader, and an advocate for strong schools, affordability, and a town where everyone feels connected.

She and her husband, Mike, began their life together in New York City, but New Canaan captured Meredith’s heart long before they moved here. After first visiting her in-laws in New Canaan in 2014, she knew this town would one day be home. Today, Meredith, Mike, and their two young daughters are proud to be building their future in the same community where Mike grew up and graduated from New Canaan High School in 2003.

Since moving to New Canaan, Meredith has immersed herself in community service and volunteer leadership. She joined the Board of Directors at her daughters’ preschool, helping to raise more than $20,000 for a new school playground within the first six months of being in the role. She has served on the Early Childhood Education Grant Review Team for the New Canaan Community Foundation, ensuring critical support reaches local programs serving young families in Stamford and Fairfield County. Meredith also serves as co-chair of the Friends of Waveny Playground committee, and helped raise $900,000 for a new all-abilities playground currently being built in one of New Canaan’s most beloved parks.

Meredith serves as Vice President of Communications for New Canaan Newcomers, where she helps welcome and connect new families to the community. She also served on the 2025 New Canaan Holiday House Tour committee.

Most recently, Meredith managed the New Canaan Democrats’ municipal campaign, where every Democratic candidate who ran for Board of Education and Town Council won their race and took office—an unprecedented result that energized civic engagement and brought balance to town government.

Before focusing on growing her family, Meredith built a career rooted in public service and advocacy. She began as a City Hall reporter for The Star-Ledger, covering then-Mayor Cory Booker in Newark, NJ. Later in her career, she served as Organizing Director at Families for Excellent Schools, helping parents advocate for improved school funding and access to high-quality education—one of her deepest passions. Her professional work has also included raising more than $1 million for organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and the Sierra Club, and developing expertise in clean energy policy.

Whether supporting families, strengthening local institutions, or championing equitable education, Meredith is driven by a commitment to making communities stronger, more connected, and full of opportunity for every child.

"To know that we as neighbors can come together, not just to build something for our kids, but to build memories, laughter and magic for years to come -- that is truly special."
